DTN COMMENTS:  Some business is now being reported in parts of the South 
at $235, steady with last week's weighted averages. A light trade has 
been reported in the North at mostly $372, steady with last week's 
weighted averages (some of these deals are set for delayed delivery, the 
weeks of April 6 and April 13).

The just released March 1 on feed report listed 11.5 million head, down 
slightly from March 2025. Placements in February totaled 1.61 million 
head, 4% above last year; marketings in February totaled 1.52 million 
head, 7% less than the prior year; other disappearance in February totaled 
50,000 head, 17% under the same time last year.

Today's slaughter totaled 81,000 head, 5,000 less than last week, and 
20,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 13,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 508,000 head, down 17,000 from the prior 
week, and 50,000 under 2025. Cattle futures closed sharply lower on both 
live (up 77 to 172) and feeder (up 222 to 342) contracts. Beef cutout are 
expected to close higher with light to moderate box movement.
